Selling a home is already a stressful process but when kids are added into the mix, things just seem to get even more complicated. The minute a room is cleaned to get it ready to show, they can ruin those efforts in the blink of an eye. Luckily, we have some advice to help alleviate some of this added stress.
Here are a few tips:
- Make an agreement: The first thing a parent should do is tell the children what is happening. Start off by writing a simple agreement stating that the children will help around the house and not make a mess. Offer an incentive in the agreement to help motivate them to work towards a goal.
- Daily checklists: Checklists keep everything organized. The kids will know what to do and exactly when they should do it. Add fun stickers as checkmarks to keep the children excited to complete a task. Constantly staying on top of this checklist will ensure that the home will be ready to view.
- Move toys and games into one room: Kids love to play, and trying to sell a home won’t stop them from having fun. Instead of letting kids make a mess everywhere, limit their play areas to one room of the house. This will make it easier to clean up when it’s time for a showing.
- Get a storage unit: The best way to declutter a house and make it presentable is by renting a storage unit. Children accumulate toys, clothes, games, etc. over the years. Instead of getting rid of it, put it into storage, and save valuable memories.
