Tips for Moving with Pets

The Raleigh market is hot, and that means many people are constantly moving into the area. Those who have pets have added considerations when planning a move. Everyone in the family needs special consideration when moving, and pets are no exception. With just a little forethought, moving with pets can be as easy as any move can be.

Here are our helpful tips for moving with pets:

  1. Consider boarding. On those busy days where the movers are going in and out of the house and everything is chaotic, consider boarding the pets or seeing if a good friend can keep them. It will make the process smoother by keeping the pets safe and cutting down on their stress.
  2. Set up their area. Before the pets come into the new home, make sure that they are ready to enjoy it. Have food and water bowls set up, make sure the fence is safe, and have a place for their toys, leash and other accessories. This makes the transition as easy as possible for them.
  3. Think about tags and identification. Make sure pets have a good ID tag during the sale of the current home, the move and as the family settles into the new home. With so many people coming in and out of the house, it’s easy for pets to slip out and get lost. Also, take a couple of photos so it’s easier to recognize them if they get lost.
  4. Take pups on walks. Once you’re in the new home, make sure to take dogs out for many walks so they can get used to their new neighborhood. It will keep their stress down and help them acclimate.
