Summer is here, and we all want to have some fun! Raleigh is a great place for families, and summers are one reason why. For those who are new to the area, and those of us who have been around a bit longer but might be in a rut, it’s nice to have a quick run-down of our favorite summer activities.
3 great activities for families in the Raleigh area are:
- Independence Days. Yes, we mean days as in plural. There’s just too much fun to be had when celebrating our country’s independence, so you’ll find each town celebrates on a different day. From July 3 through July 5, you’ll find different fireworks shows and activities depending on the town. Our favorite? Apex! They celebrate Fourth of July with a great old-timey feel, with a kids’ bike parade down main street and great family activities.
- Take me out to the ballgame! You’ve probably heard about the Durham Bulls, or at least the movie inspired by them, Bull Durham. In addition to the Bulls, there are other great family-friendly baseball teams around the triangle including the Carolina Mudcats (also minor league, like the Bulls) and the Holly Springs Salamanders (a college summer league team). All the teams have great family and community activities and they’re always good fun.
- Outdoor movies and concerts. Almost every large park has either concerts or movies under the stars. Yes, they’re probably movies your kids have seen a thousand times, but it’s a whole new experience to pack a picnic and watch these family favorites outdoors. Many communities will also host family-friendly musical acts that are a great way to introduce kids to live music.
