While it’s easy to use apps like Google Maps and Waze to direct you to a location, we also know that you don’t want to rely on them to get everywhere. Eventually, you will want to know which way is up or down.
3 key tips to help you navigate and find your way around the Triangle are:
- Find a landmark close to home: It doesn’t have to be a tall building or park. It could be something as simple as a shopping plaza, intersection, school, or other fixed location that you know where to go from there. Use that as a reference to know which direction that is to and from your residence.
- Divide the area into sections: It’s very difficult to know Raleigh or Durham in their entirety right off the bat. So, we recommend breaking it down by neighborhoods or areas based on districts and learn what is in those districts. By taking it one neighborhood at a time, you will learn more as you go.
- By and study a map: Yes, we said a map. Your phone or GPS will only show a small portion of an area based on where you are at the moment. A map of the entire region will show you much more than that. Learning the area via directions, highways and other major roads will do more for you than a GPS.
